A Bay of Islands / Whangaroa Community Board grant funded the removal of 41 privets and Taiwan cherries by a contractor along a 60-metre stretch of Wairoa Stream opposite the public walkway bordering Alderton Park.

This was a very weed-infested part of an FNDC Esplanade Reserve. The support of the Community Board has enabled the restoration of this rather disgraceful eyesore and weed source, with the cooperation of willing landowners.
