A week of it: Sewage, Domain, Local Body Elections and School Track

There has been a burst of media releases from the Far North District Council over the last few days starting with an announcement that the new Kerikeri Sewage System has been delayed until July 2020. No doubt this will not please those who have built in anticipation of connecting earlier.

On Friday there were two further releases related to the adoption of the Kerikeri Domain Management Plan. This release outlines the establishment of an incorporated society that will represent the Kerikeri community in management decisions for the domain. This option is due to be discussed at the Council’s 3 October meeting. The second release covers the plight of the fire damaged pavillion situation on the Cobham Road side of the Domain.

For those who want to make a more informed choice about who they vote for in the upcoming Local Body Elections (October) the Kerikeri Ratepayers Association are hosting a "meet the candidates" following their AGM on 26 August at: Whare Karakia O Manako, Cornerstone 144 Kerikeri Road, Kerikeri. Meet the candidates is at 7pm while the AGM kicks off at 5:30pm. The Council have prepared a Pre Election Report that will also help to make us more informed voters.

On Wednesday the Kerikeri Primary School held an opening ceremony for a walking track from the School grounds down to the Wairoa Stream. The track was built by the Friends of the Wairoa Stream and funded by the school's PTA. It provides much more accessibility to the 'outdoor classroom' that is provided by the Wairoa Stream and it's natural habitat. The opening was attended by around 150 parents, volunteers and school children. The pictures below show the ceremony that was followed by a walk down the track.
