Wairoa Stream Track Re-opened

The track along the Wairoa Stream is again open after having been closed for several weeks for maintenance.

A contractor has been removing alien invasive tree species along part of the stream bank between the Te Wairere Waterfall and Orchard Estate. A lot of Taiwan Cherry, Acmena, Brush Wattle, Black Wattle and Tobacco weed have been removed and also some mature Pinus Radiata and a few Eucalypts.

The bank will be replanted with native lowland broadleaf/podocarp species in the autumn as it is now too late in the season to plant.

Mulch spreading along Wairoa Stream

While not related to the track closure, Friends of Wairoa Stream have been busy spreading mulch around new plantings adjacent to Sammaree Reserve
